Garden Statues

Garden statues are romantic additions to the most mundane of gardens, complementing a feeling of beauty and enchantment, or unique and entirely different than the norm—all the favorite flowers or shrubs, planning with large structural trees, shrubs, and then following the design with smaller shrubs and plants will set the scene for the design—with all gardens beginning in this way. Trees that are tall, shorter varieties of shrubs in front, with a wide variety of annuals, perennials, and bulbs. Mix and match colors, spread out the blooming times, and arrange the different heights. And when this is all done—choose accessories to add to the desired look—such as garden statues, baths for the birds or feeders for the hummingbirds. After that—add the permanent fixtures—such as the benches or paths.

The garden statues are the center point of all gardens, even if it is placed off to the side as a complement to the garden itself. If it is overly large, it has the ability to be dramatic and the main focus of the entire garden. On the other hand, it can be smaller and quiet—in an unobtrusive way. It can be in harmony with its surroundings, regardless of which look is chosen for the statue or its size.

Garden statues can be groups of smaller elements, such as urns or pots, to form a grouped statue set. A garden that is enhanced by a garden is done for two purposes: one is for the statue to be the whole purpose of the garden, and the other is to enhance the garden. Either one would complement the garden, allowing for a personal choice of style. Each sculptural piece will have its own look, with a different look and style from the other. One main dominating statue can be a strong piece, or several smaller ones as a group, placed in different locations throughout the garden—these choices depend on what is desired for the look of the garden.

Most garden designers choose the garden statue last, as they are very expensive, and require lots of involvement, as there are many styles, types, or prices. Choosing a solid object for the garden can be abstract or even representational. Simple shapes carry well, with a durable material to last over the years. But the statue has something the flowers do not, and that is the ability to look beautiful all year long from all angles of viewing.
