Herbicides & Pesticides

According to the EPA, the National Cancer Institute, and the American Journal of Epidemiology, approximately 95% of all the pesticides and herbicides used have a tendency to be carcinogenic. As early as 1989, it was reported that leukemia in children increased six times the normal amount whenever they were around pesticides in the home or nearby. Further testing demonstrated that brain tumors in children, along with many other forms of cancer, were on an increase when the children were around insecticides or were exposed to lawn chemicals. A 50% rise in fatal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma has occurred in the past 10 years or more of the American population.

A big no-no is the groundwater wells that have been traced to cancer clusters in the area. Of all the states in America, about 38 states have demonstrated contamination of drinking water. Research and studies have found that synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers have become the worst water pollutants in our country.

The USDA reports show that over half of the country's people use ground water for drinking water, with most rural areas using it as the main drinking water. And nitrate, originating from inorganic fertilizer and animal manure, has been found to pass through the soil into this water; plus, there are such things as airborne nitrogen that is passed off by manufacturing industries, landing on the soil as part of rain or mist, along with dry particles. Once in the soil, and then into the ground water, nitrate will last for quite a while—as long as decades, accumulating every year as more and more nitrogen is applied on the land every year.
